Meditation and the ego death!
“I Think Therefore I Am.”
Meditation and the Ego Death
Have you ever met someone you deemed egotistical? Too egotistical to be true?
Did you know that the ego represents the false, disillusioned self? How would you feel if you were able to confirm that there is no such thing as me and you or I? What if the death of the ego is not only the absence of thought but the birth of enlightenment?
So, perhaps you want to find an escape from your daily stressors. Maybe you are seeking a healthier alternative. It is always possible that your soul is ready to reconnect with you. Whatever the particular reason, you are in the right place. Try not to worry, all is well.
At last, you are about to see through the veil of illusion. It is time for you to shine brighter than a diamond.
In this article, I will be discussing the top five experiences regarding what I call meditation and the ego death:
- Who Am I?
- NOT who I am?
- Why Am I Here?
- Why Me?
- Again, Why Not Me?
If you thought the ego could never die, think again! Your essence is about to live for the truth.

Who Am I Ego-wise?
This is an existential question that is a lot more common than you think. When you look deep within your soul, you begin to notice an inherent void. Suddenly, you don’t recognize yourself. You lose yourself every time you look in the mirror.
Perhaps you even feel like you are someone different from who you appear to be. It is like you might not be the person you always thought you were.
You are not your mind or your body. A rude awakening pours ice-cold water on you. Your soul instigates the search within.
It cries out, “Who Am I?” with an insatiable hunger to know. With a relentless desire to remember who it truly is.
But how does one know? How does one learn how to understand? Is there a way to get found in translation?
Well, the only problem is that the ego needs to know everything. It has to feel important, aggrandized, and idolized.
Provided that some argue that meditation increases self-centeredness, meditation is just as equally a way to remove those egocentric hindrances. It catalyzes removing the layers that obscure your vision.
Meditation unlocks the missing key in your heart. Then, it reignites the hidden, dormant flame once again.
You realize that you are nothing you thought you were. You see that the quest is an eternal one.
Thus, as this period of introspection commences, you learn that who you thought you were was just the tip of the iceberg.
Is the Ego Not Who I Am?
The ego is so concerned with knowing, being right, and garnering influence that it rarely considers the opposite. It rarely considers the process of un-knowing, being wrong, and taking a back seat in uncertainty.
And even though this is the second point on the list, you have to know who you are not to understand who you are.
In the same vein, the ego loves to over-identify with the False Self to an adverse extent. You fail to realize just how great, anointed, and divine you really are.
Before going any further, let’s identify what you are NOT:
- Your Race
- Creed (or the lack thereof)
- Nationality/Ethnicity
- Past
- External Circumstances
- Negative Energy
- Your Body and Mind
- Gender/Sex
- Sexual Orientation
- Political Affiliation
- Societal Conditioning
- Lack, Scarcity, and MUCH more
While these characteristics make up some of you, it doesn’t constitute the whole, unadulterated, ABUNDANT you. Matter of factly, your soul transcends all these things. It is the soul in the body, not vice versa.
Meditation helps you to understand that you are stronger, greater, and better than you initially realized. Indeed, it is never too late to reacquaint with your innermost self again.
But, first and foremost, you have to eliminate what you aren’t to accentuate what you are. Identify the right way!
Why Am I Here?
Without a doubt, this is a very tough, challenging, and oftentimes distressing question.
You feel as though you don’t fit in the crowd anymore. Nothing out there feels right like it used to when you were carefree and oblivious. It’s like you’ve involuntarily taken the red pill. You cannot go back to sleeping in as you are eyes wide open. The reality that you’ve got lots to learn and accomplish slaps you in the face.
Plus, it can take millennia just to figure out your true soul’s purpose. Perhaps you find yourself searching high and low to get into tandem’s flow. Perhaps you don’t know how to let go. But, maybe your soul is ready for you to answer the call.
Accordingly, the time has come for you to smell the roses.
Meditation gives you a clearer version of your True, Higher Self. You see that you aren’t here to squander your potential and be a shell of an individual. Gradually, your knowing deepens to a point of pertinent self-discovery.
In the same vein, your feeble whisper metamorphosizes into a formidable roar. You have to break free and escape and must understand why you were placed on planet Earth in the first place.
Indeed, Ego on Fire?
In the process of the dying ego, you also need it to feel the most alive. By the same token, it has to know that it is worth it and in control.
Luckily, this intrinsically motivated drive prompts you to dive deeper within. It is as if you are hooked in the spell of meditation. You come to love losing yourself, only to find the real you.
As you let meditation guide you, your awareness expands. This allows you to live for your essence to tap into what makes you feel the most you.
While ego death isn’t pretty or painless, it is an inevitable sacrifice that births the underlying essence inside.
Indeed, you are here to open the canal of your inner ear to hear. All is clear when you know your soul’s mission. Stay here.
Why Me?
Yes, it is almost too easy for all of us to adopt the victim mentality. Moreover, it is our default to think negatively. You might even feel like you are doomed to a lifetime of misfortune and disappointment. However, this persistent illusion couldn’t be any further from the truth.
The ego loves to play the blame game and abuse itself in the process. Whatever it takes to be the center of attention — the protagonist of the soap-operatic drama. It enjoys ruminating over what was and worrying about what will be. This, of course, neglected the pleasures that land squarely in the present.
As meditation breathes life into the real you, it gives you a clue into your current predicament. Thus, it reframes your perspective on who you think you are and prompts you to see the blessing in the curse, the silver lining of the discourse.
Life is Happening For Me?!
Then, your focus flows elsewhere. You see the light of your life.
As a result, you one day wake up and realize that you aren’t what happened to you. You aren’t every screw-up, trauma, abuse, and suffering you’ve internalized over the years.
Instead of thinking, “why is this happening to me?” you start to think “why is this happening for me?”
Ever since meditation raises your vibration, your mentality shifts from victim to survivor. Poverty to abundance. Loser to learner. Helpless to purposeful. Contraction to expansion.
And as your thoughts, feelings, and actions change, you change. Your entire life changes.
Moreover, you are reborn in the harvest of your truth.
Without a doubt, everything is a blessing, disguised or otherwise.
Additionally, life always happens in your best interest.
Don’t let life break you. Let it make you as you are meant to be.
Quite simply, you are chosen to fully, perfectly align with your soul’s purpose. You are blessed beyond measure.
Own it, be it, and meditate on your greatest version.
Why Not Me?
Then again, why not me? Why not experience the grief? Why not embrace all life’s happenings?
Does all life happen to you, or do you happen to all life?
To clarify, you are the infinite co-creator of your life. You are always manifesting your external circumstances with your internal condition. Yet, you have no idea just how powerful you are.
To reiterate, you are always creating your reality with your thoughts, feelings, words, and actions. You must choose carefully.
Be the Ego-less Solution!
Remember, the ego loves to meditate on the problem. Your essence is the solution to meditation. It is your natural state of being.
So, the question remains: why not me?
Why not weather the storm and come out in a united form?
After all, challenge builds character. Character builds results.
Everything that had transpired in your life is meant to prepare you for your soul’s purpose.
With each breath you take, the stronger, greater, and better you’ll be.
And in due time, you will see your ego dying in debris. So, let your essence off the leash. Just breathe.
Above all, the next time you ask, “why me?” remember that the million-dollar question is “why not me?”
Essentially, meditation is the ultimate journey to your innermost being. The more you do it, the more you seek.
Don’t fight the process. Just be.
You are embracing the bittersweet death of the ego as the true, pure, unconditioned self.
Therefore, you are the very essence of freedom.
Why not me when I can be one step closer to who I am meant to be?
Get the lesson, give the testimony.
Ego at a Funeral
In the end, the ego will meet its demise. No matter how many times it is postponed, this is an inevitability. Meditation merely accelerates this process. Consequently, the ego’s demise is a matter of sooner or later.
It is in that moment of sorrow that your essence will rise. It will live on as you breathe without the identity mask. Your face will at once relax.
As a result, meditation serves as a catalyst to look at the man (or woman) in the mirror. For once, you now recognize the person looking back at you. The essence outshines the appearance that used to outweigh the former.
Brighter, lighter, more promising days are ahead of you.
Consequently, you now know that for every end there is a new beginning.
Because of this, as the ego dies, the essence shall rise.
Meditation pushes through the labor and gives birth to something far greater.
New life is on the horizon!

Thanks alot for sharing this wonderful article. I really felt very emotional while reading this. It gave me great motivation. ego death is a gradual process based on your own subjective realization of how your being is interconnected with the literal universe. It is the gradual understanding that YOU as a being, not a mental construct of parts, is home. Meditation is part of a vast philosophal system that is used as a tool, next to many other tools. Keep up the good work mate.

A very thought-provoking post, thank you. I have been using meditation every day for a few months and have found it great. I have also discovered all different sorts of meditation. I love Dr Joe Dispenza, and I find his work amazing.
You can use meditation for many reasons, but I have never really thought about the “Ego Death” you talk about though it does make some sense. Very informative, keep the great work coming.
Very helpful and heart-warming feedback. I also love the context you provide for the practical uses of meditation.
And I will definitely keep the great work coming. You just keep being such a wonderful customer, okay?
Meditation is something that I practice everyday and I have to admit, I suck at it lol Anyway, I never look as meditation in the state of thinking before. As a buddhist, we use meditation to let go of things that we have no control of as a stressor in our lives. So, the ultimate goal for us to meditate is to not think of anything at all.
In my opinion, Who Am I and Why Me are the most dangerous one to think about. I used to have a few episode of thinking this way a few times when life gets tough.
I agree it is all about the more you meditate, the better you will be at it. Like i said, I am horrible at it but I practice Vipassana daily. There are many types of meditation that you can find to fit your lifestyle. I sometimes do the walking meditation and that is the best feeling that you can have.
Find the right on and just do it.
I know that you are getting better every day. Meditation is the art of becoming your great version so going from terrible to excellent is a working progress. You’ve got what it takes to succeed.
Meditation is the muscle for your essence so just keeping going and find ways to work smarter, more substantially.
Yes, I guarantee you are a lot better than you give yourself credit for. That’s a wonderful sign!
